Crippled & Still Kicking

A little over a month ago, I had an accident at a trampoline park that left me with a fractured ankle, a torn ligament and a piece of cartilage floating around among it all. My first thought (after, “shoot, I was supposed to go hiking tomorrow!”) was, “dang… it’s senior portrait season.”

Texas State’s campus is hardly an easy climb, even when you’re not on crutches. However, I’d already had a large handful of students inquire about senior portraits, and I wasn’t going to give up that easily. So a couple weeks ago, I tackled one of the most interesting photo challenges I’ve ever encountered: shooting on a knee bike.

Fortunately, my brother was in town to help me carry my camera equipment around campus, and occasionally carry me up stairs. It took a little longer for me to get the angles I wanted, but it was well worth the effort. My client, Ashlyn–soon to be Miss Rathburn–was a champion! The whole thing, hilarious though it probably looked, was a blast and a half.
